Online Safety

How can I keep my child safe online?

With the increasing use of technology, it is important that children are safeguarded and advised as to how to ensure their safety online. There are many resources available to parents/guardians explaining ways in which you can help your child to be safe online which are included below.

  • Speak to your child about what they like to do online so you have a better understanding. This will also allow you to advise them on safety settings and encourage them to be open about any issues which occur online.
  • Talk to them about who they are in contact with. Remind your child they should not be sharing personal information and ensure you have the correct settings to limit who can contact your child.
  • Help manage what they see and do online. Ensure you have oversight of their device, app and network settings. Your network provider will be able to help you to implement this, the link below for National Online Safety has guides for many different apps and devices.
  • Make an online safety agreement with them. Detail what they can use, when they can use, how long they can access it for and what to do if they see something that worries them. Below is a link to an exemplar online safety family agreement.
  • Remember it is okay to ask for help. If you feel that you need support with online safety then please do not hesitate to contact us. Below are some useful organisations that can also support with this.
