Careers Guidance

At City Heights E-ACT Academy, we believe that a Good Career and Education Guidance is instrumental to prepare each student for a life post-16 and beyond. We will ensure that our students are supported with the advice and information they need to make informed, appropriate decisions about their next steps; be it Further Education, Apprenticeships, Employment or Enterprise.

Our commitment is to deliver a highly effective programme. A plan that embodies diversity and equality, affording every student the opportunity, experience and support to fulfil their full potential, irrespective of their social and family background.

As a Statutory Guidance, we will be following the Gatsby 8 Benchmarks as a framework for improving our careers provision. The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance are:

1. A Stable Careers Programme
2. Learning from Career and Labour Market information

3. Addressing the Needs of Each Pupil
4. Linking Curriculum Learning to Careers
5. Encounters with Employers and Employees
6. Experiences of Workplaces
7. Encounters with Further and Higher Education
8. Personal Guidance

For Students
● To be equipped with the skills and attributes essential for a successful career and life-long learning.
● To improve awareness and consequential thinking, ownership and responsibility around attitude, behaviour, punctuality and decision making.
● To develop the necessary aptitude required for next steps.
● To provide students with appropriate guidance on employability skills and the labour market, to ensure that they are equipped for their chosen career.
● To provide students with appropriate encounters with colleges and universities to make informed decisions about further education.

For Parents and Carers
The development and success of City Heights E-ACT Academy Careers Curriculum is dependent on those for whom our young people rely on. We will encourage the support of parents/carers to be involved in the process, for example, having discussions at home around career planning. Additionally, parents will be invited to careers information day, to be better informed of how they can further support their child outside of the school day.

For Teachers and Tutors
● To support the delivery of CIEAG, by embedding careers, enterprise and employability in their own subject areas, programme of study and schemes of
work.
● To work alongside the career’s lead to promote and be intentional in facilitating meaningful conversations. To explore the intricacies around career
development and career management during tutor time.

The next review will take place November 2020
